About Geoff

Geoff DSC_0829.JPG

Geoff grew up in St. Helena and has deep roots in the Napa Valley where his love of the arts, music and community activism were fostered. After leaving the valley for 20 years to pursue his artistic talents in Los Angeles he returned and found himself getting involved in local politics concerning water, land use, and social equity.

Geoff’s artistic side could be seen in every aspect of his young life. As a young adult he pursued his dreams in the arts and musical world which lead him to experience many amazing and epic tales that accompanied his travels. He has written screenplays, sold thousands of paintings, performed countless shows in his band, The Towne Dandies, as well as a theatrical performer. The stories abound with Geoff and hopefully one day he will find the time to write a book about his life, travels, art, activism and even becoming mayor of his hometown of St. Helena.

Geoff has been working professionally as an artist since the 1980s. He works in many different mediums but is probably most recognized for his acrylics on canvas and pen and ink drawings. Along the way to sustain his artistic dreams he has mastered many unique and memorable jobs - dishwasher, selling garden tools, bartender, worked at a landfill, wedding coordinator, managed a traveling magic show and countless pet sitting jobs all of which helped prepare him for his role in politics that eventually lead to being mayor in his hometown of St. Helena.

Geoff’s true profession has always been in the arts whether it be paints, drawing or through performance art, songwriting, playwriting, and musical performance with his bands. He was in the band Bluegill in his twenties and later he created The Towne Dandies. He has traveled all over the United States with his performing acts and selling his art. He is proud to say he has visited all 50 states! Geoff’s music and videos can be seen at the Towne Dandies site here.

In addition to his artistic talents Geoff is also a gifted community organizer, he works tirelessly to lift up underserved populations, ensuring all members of the community have a voice. As mayor from 2018-2022 Geoff striked the delicate balance of hearing everyone’s concerns while trying to ensure the most sound approach is adopted in local government. Geoff left political office at the end of 2022 after serving on City Council and then two back to back terms as mayor. Geoff is still deeply committed to protecting the environment, the community, and all its precious resources. A constant in Geoff’s political work has been water security, racial and social equity, environmental stewardship, climate drawdown, increasing affordable housing and maintaining strong ties among the community.
